Finland is set to host the legendary Neste Rally Finland from 1st to 4th August 2019. The Finnish round of the FIA World Rally Championship, based in Central Finland, is known around the world for its fast-flowing gravel stages, spectacular jumps and fabulous lakeside sceneries. The rally is one of the biggest annual events in the Nordic countries and attracts one of the largest entries in the Championships.

The Great Migration has already been sighted in the Maasai Mara with the front of the herd recently crossing the Kenyan border. Conservationists say the unusual occurrence started on May 26 as the Mara ecosystem has enough grazing land. About one million wildebeests are expected to cross the river from Serengeti for what has been described as one of the seven modern wonders of the world.

NASA is set to open the International Space Station to tourists. From 2020, the US space agency said it would open the orbiting station to tourism and other business ventures. NASA’s plan is to enable private astronaut missions for the duration of 30 days on the ISS. Two short private astronaut missions are planned per year. The expected priced is $35,000 (£27,500) per night.

Tourists will soon be able to fly directly from Mumbai to Nairobi on Air India. The direct flight will fly 4 days a week and is set to commence on World Tourism Day on 27th September 2019. India is a fast-growing, emerging market for tourism to Kenya and this move by Air India is a testimony to the rising demand for better connectivity between the two nations.

Israel's most luxurious hotel chain has opened the Orient Hotel in Jerusalem. Located in the heart of the German Colony, the hotel features 243 rooms and suites in a newly constructed building, inside two well-preserved Templar buildings of the late-19th century. Other amenities include an indoor pool and an outdoor rooftop infinity pool with a unique view of the Old City.

Howard Smith Wharves is Brisbane's newest entertainment and lifestyle destination. Nestled between Brisbane’s iconic Story Bridge and the New Farm cliffs, with a 180-degree vista of the city skyline and river, a steady stream of restaurants, bars and event spaces have opened here since late 2018. Look out for Art Series’ new hotel, The Fantauzzo.

Thaa Atoll in Maldives welcomes its first hotel, COMO Maalifushi, located in the archipelago’s southern reaches. The architecture includes low-lying gardens and overwater villas, with views of white beach, tropical greenery and cobalt lagoon. A 60-minute seaplane journey from the capital, Malé, guests can also enjoy yoga and holistic Asian therapies here at the COMO Shambhala Retreat.


Short Breaks Special: Four Days in Almaty
