Day 1: The Heart of the Amazon (Manaus)
Start your Brazilian journey into the Amazon at the mighty Manaus, capital of Amazonas and the perfect starting point to explore the natural beauty of the surrounding rainforest. Your private transfer will drive you through the lush jungles into Manaus, where we have arranged for a comfortable stay. Surrounded by miles of Amazon jungles on all sides, Manaus is a little urban metropolis. Step out to enjoy the city after sundown, at one of its many excellent seafood restaurants or a local bar where you can try an authentic caipirinha, the national cocktail.
Day 2: Magnificent Manaus
After a morning at leisure, you will spend the afternoon on a tour of the highlights of Manaus, visiting its popular neighbourhoods and must-see spots, such as the Indian Museum. Then visit the stupendous Teatro Amazonas, home of the Amazonas Philharmonic Orchestra and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful buildings in the country. The theatre is constructed with materials from all over the globe, including Murano glass chandeliers, Carra marble from northern Tuscany, steel from Glasgow and gilded tiles from Alsace, France. Look up to witness the spectacular dome highlighted by 36,000 tiles painted in the colours of Brazil’s national flag.
Day 3: Into the Forest (Manaus - Amazon)
Leave the streets of Manaus and venture into the Amazon rainforest, one of the most diverse areas on the planet where you can’t help but experience the magic of the tropics. Start your day at the Manaus pier, where you’ll board a boat into the deep Amazon. Cruise along the Meeting of Waters, the spot where the inky waves of the Rio Negro run alongside the sandy surf of the Rio Solimoes for nearly four miles. After this memorable journey, you will turn inland to the heart of the rainforest, towards your comfortable and luxurious stay for the night, a scenic eco lodge filled with modern amenities in the heart of the jungle.
Day 4: The Incredible Interiors (Amazon)
Explore the wild today as we step out into nature to experience the diversity of the Amazon. Begin your day with an invigorating nature hike through the incredible landscape of the surrounding forest. After lunch, proceed to a local village, where you learn all about the culture, history and traditions of life in this part of the world. The evening features a truly exceptional experience as you turn to the waters of the Amazon for a session of alligator spotting, an eerie and haunting activity that is sure to entertain.
Day 5: The Rio Life (Rio)
Leave the untamed Amazon for the vibrant city lights of Rio de Janeiro, one of the country’s most renowned attractions. You will be transferred to the airport to board your flight to Rio de Janeiro. After checking into your hotel, we take an afternoon trek up the soaring peak of Rio’s favourite tourist attraction Sugarloaf hill – named historically after Brazil’s sugar cane trade in the 16th century. This is the most spectacular view of this enchanting city, from the Atlantic Ocean beyond the confines of Rio Harbour up to the climbing peaks of Mount Corcovado and the iconic statue of Christ spreading his arms over this majestic metropolis.
Day 6: From Sunrise to Sunset (Rio)
Today, we ride down to the sprawling Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest. On your way up, you will encounter the pristine beauty of exotic birds, mammals and green landscapes, before reaching one of the most popular sites in the world, Christ the Redeemer.
Take the afternoon off as you prepare yourself for a night out in town! We start at one of Brazil’s famous “churrascarias” followed by a colourful performance, reminiscent of the famous Rio Carnival. Get dazzled by the shimmering lights and vibrant hues of the singers and dancers who present great songs and stories from Brazilian folklore in a unique and phenomenal way.
Day 7: Urban Jungles (Rio)
Early morning, head out to one of the world’s largest urban forests as you take a jeep ride into Tijuca. This forested area, in close proximity to Rio, offers the perfect respite from city life and is home to a vast array of plants and wildlife. Lose yourself in the serenity as you walk through the jungle, spotting rare creatures and listening to the roar of the nearby Cascatinha Waterfall. Return to the city by early afternoon and take the rest of the day to enjoy the energy of Rio. Head out to one of the city’s famous beaches, or try the Santa Teresa for a bout of art.
Day 8: To the Borderlands (Foz do Iguaçu)
Leave the city lights and make your way to Brazil’s border with Paraguay and Argentina to visit a stunning natural wonder: Iguazu Falls. Board your flight to Iguazu (Argentinian side). This breath-taking sight attracts more than a million visitors every year, for the sheer expanse and panorama on display. Nearly thrice as wide as Niagara Falls, it is reported that when Eleanor Roosevelt visited the falls for the first time, she remarked, “Poor Niagara!” Your stay is at the nearby town of Foz do Iguaçu.
Day 9: Into the Iguazu (Foz do Iguaçu)
Cross over into Argentina for a full-day expedition of the Iguazu Falls. An expert guide leads you around the area, taking you within jumping distance of many of the main cascades. After a delicious lunch, head straight into the Iguazu on a boat tour. As you come closer, the mist hits your face and the wonder of the cascading waters comes to life. After the ride, hop onto a train that will take you to the Fall’s greatest attraction: the majestic Devil’s Throat, where nearly fifty percent of the water at Iguazu tumbles down three hundred feet along a half-mile stretch.
Day 10: Back to the city (Foz do Iguaçu – Rio)
Fly back into Rio to explore the falls one last time, from the Brazilian side. This side also features an astounding national park, the Parque Nacional do Iguacu, which is replete with walkways and some of the very best vista points in the entire area. Take a leisurely hike through the surrounding jungle to explore the area. In the afternoon, we fly back to Rio, where you get one final evening to live up the Brazilian lifestyle. Enjoy a delicious dinner at one of the poshest neighbourhoods in Rio, feasting on freshly caught seafood with a brilliant view of the sprawling beaches and the arressting Atlantic Ocean.
Following a delicious breakfast, a private driver will take you from the hotel to the airport in plenty of time to board the flight that will take you back home.
