The Journey

DAY 1: Welcome to Athens

Meet your driver for a private transfer from the airport. Athens is a city full of a majestic history that will entice you as soon as you set foot here. There’s a mix of Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman influences, that feature across fascinating heritage sites, including the world-famous Acropolis. As you drive through the streets, notice its varying facets – from neo-grunge art on the walls to medieval taverns, antique markets, glitzy malls and much more.

DAY 2: Athenian Sights

Athens is undoubtedly one of the oldest and hence most historically interesting cities to visit in the world. Today, you get to spend half a day on a guided tour of the city, passing by impressive buildings such as the Greek House of Parliament, Syntagma Square, the Academy, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the National Library and Iliou Melathron, noted as one of the most beautiful buildings in Athens. End with a climb up the most iconic sight of the city – the Acropolis. Explore the Parthenon, the best known and most awe-inspiring structure within the Acropolis citadel and visit the ancient temple of Erechtheion. In the evening, visit the historical neighbourhood of Plaka for a relaxing Greek dinner at a traditional tavern, set to the tune of folk music and dancers.

DAY 3: Sample the Fare (Athens)

Start exploring the flavours of Athens on a guided walk through the vibrant Varvakios Central food market. Greek’s rich culinary traditions will come alive as you sample local treats and learn about the unique cooking techniques and recipes of the region. Visit local artisans that have perfected traditional recipes over many years as well as specialised stores that bring in fresh ingredients from across the country. Your guide will direct you to local specialities including traditional cheese pie, Greek coffee, souvlaki, loukoumades, olive oil, and much more. Return to the hotel for a leisurely evening, before heading out of the city the next day.

DAY 4: Sunset Island (Athens – Santorini)

Meet your driver for a private transfer to the port, where you will board a high-speed ferry to the stunning island of Santorini, approximate 5 hours away. Crescent shaped and whitewashed, the island is perhaps the most popular romantic getaway on everyone’s bucket list! As you settle in for your first night here, don’t forget to catch the glorious sunset that the island is known for.

DAY 5: Island Life (Santorini)

Today, you will set sail on a cruise around the island, from the Vlychada port. Start with a visit to the famous Red Beach, a geologically unique area that was formed in a volcanic eruption. Continue to the stunning White Beach, where volcanic black sand contrasts with the towering white cliffs above. Spend some time in the azure waters of the cove for a bit of swimming and snorkelling, before getting back on board to savour a delicious barbeque meal on the ship’s deck, accompanied by crisp Santorinian wine. Sail back to Ammoudi port, stopping below the village of Oia for another stunning sunset. From Ammoudi, you will be transferred back to your hotel for the night.

DAY 6: Varied Palettes (Santorini - Heraklion – Chania)

Today, we travel to another region to explore a different facet of Greek cuisine. Meet your driver for a private transfer to the port, where you will board a high-speed ferry from Santorini to Heraklion on the island of Crete, approximate 1.5 hours away. From here, you will be driven to evocative city of Chania, about 2.5 hours away. A place known for its 14th-century Venetian harbour, boutique hotels housed inside medieval townhouses and an eclectic mix of waterfront restaurants.

DAY 7: Culinary Chania

Meet your private guide for a walking tour of Chania, focusing on the delectable culinary tradition of this Cretan city. Walk through the old Jewish and Turkish quarters, for an experience of the warm Green people and delicious food. Visit local shops and eateries and explore the historical origins of the area as you stroll around its ancient streets. Chat with locals for an authentic peak into local culinary delights, as you savour delicacies such as "loukoumades", a traditional "bougatsa" pie, honey, rusks, olives, herbs and spices.

DAY 8: The Last Course (Chania)

Nothing offers a more intimate take of local food than a cooking class with a knowledgeable local. Start your day with a walk through the lively local market, where you get to sample local cheeses and olives. Follow it up with a cooking class and lunch at a quaint 17th-century farmhouse, a short drive from Chania. This insight into regional cuisine will highlight the simple, seasonal foods of Crete. Learn how to prepare some traditional dishes with an expert chef guiding the way. You can cook up your own storm in the kitchen, or sit back and relax, taking in the tranquillity of your surroundings. End the class with a delicious lunch accompanied with local Cretan wine and the delightful company of your host.

DAY 9: Farwell Greece (Chania)

Sit back and relax on a private transfer from Chania to Heraklion Airport, about 2.5 hours away, for your flight back home.
