The Journey

Welcome to Istanbul

You will be met by our representative at the Istanbul Ataturk airport and transferred to the hotel for check-in. Later, you will be picked up for a half-day exploration of the city. Visit the Old City Walls, which were laid down over many years to protect the Ottoman empire. Ride down to the Golden Horn, which is the primary inlet to the Bosphorus river; and take the cable car up to Pierre Loti, for spectacular views of the strait. Come back to the shores for a cruise along the Bosphorus coastline, which is a delightful mixture of the past and the present with the splendour and quaint beauty of ancient wooden mansions and marble palaces intermingling with small fishing villages. Along the way, you will see the medieval Rumeli Fortress and the iconic Leander’s Tower, from your boat cruise.

Historic Sights and An Ancient Bazaar

You will be picked up early, for a half-day exploration of the city. Visit Constantinople’s Hippodrome also known as “Square of Horses” – the lively centre of life under the Byzantine empire. Right next to the Hippodrome is the magnificent Sultanahmet Mosque, popularly known as the Blue Mosque for its interiors decorated with 21,000 blue Iznik tiles (only seen from the outside on Fridays). Also, visit Hagia Sophia, which served as the cathedral of Constantinople, and end your day inside the world’s largest and perhaps most well-known marketplace, the spectacular Grand Bazaar (closed on Sundays). Spend the afternoon at leisure.

Off the Beaten Track (Istanbul – Kayseri – Cappadocia)

Today, we start early for the morning flight to Kayseri from Istanbul, with a packed breakfast on route. Our representative will meet you at the Kayseri airport, from where we will drive into Cappadocia. Here, we will visit Red Valley, one of the most beautiful trekking spots in the area, and explore its famous rock-cut churches on a hike through the region. After the hike, take a pit stop at Old Cavusin, one of the oldest Greek Villages in Cappadocia, known for its quaint houses and churches. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the fascinating underground city of Kaymakli, built under the hill known as the Citadel of Kaymakli and opened to visitors in 1964. And end with a visit to the idyllic Pigeon Valley, before heading to your hotel for check in, dinner and overnight stay.

Countryside Cappadocia

After breakfast, step out for a full-day exploration of Cappadocia. We start at the whimsical and untouched terrains of Devrent Valley and Pasabaglari (also called Monk’s Valley). Suffused in hues of pink and rose, the valleys are known for their extraordinary rock formations and unusual “fair chimneys”. Next visit Avanos, a historical city dating back to the Bronze Age, renowned for its carpet weaving and pottery ateliers. After lunch as a local restaurant, explore the Goreme Open Air Museum, a monastic complex built between 900 and 1200 AD, home to some of the finest rock-cut churches with exquisite frescoes. Stop by the Citadel of Uchisar and Esentepe for beautiful views of Cappadocia – a great spot to click photos. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Farewell Turkey! (Cappadocia – Kayseri – Istanbul)
