Day 1: The Land of a Thousand Hills (Kigali)
Touch down in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, where lush mountains nestle alongside bustling streets and markets. The scenic city offers spectacular sights to start your photography adventure, especially as the sun sets. Your private transfer will take you to the hotel, where you can check in and relax. Or step out to explore the city.
Day 2: The Misty Hills of Africa (Volcanoes National Park)
Today, we drive into remote Rwanda for a particularly interesting photography session. As the mist swirls through the hills and the light plays a game of shadows, the photographer in you is sure to rise to the challenge! On our journey north to Volcanoes National Park, there will be countless stops to capture the beauty of the area – under forest canopies, across open valleys, and through small picturesque villages.
Day 3: Golden Monkeys (Volcanoes National Park)
Travel through the Volcanoes National Park, this time on the trail of the excitable golden monkeys. This rare species of monkeys offers a captivating sight to photograph, with their beautiful golden fur coat. Spot a singular primate, chewing on bamboo or look out for the entire herd and how they interact with one another. As you travel through the forest, the different shades and shadows of the foliage, coupled with the activities of the monkeys, offer the perfect way to practice your photography skills for the days ahead.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking (Volcanoes National Park)
Gorilla trekking is the highlight of any trip to Eastern Africa! The matte black fur and deep-set eyes of the gorilla make it a difficult subject to capture on film. Today, we trek to find a troop of gorillas to photograph, an overwhelming sight at first as you find an entire herd running around the forest. Your guide will help you manoeuvre to the safest spots to capture the wildlife, along with tips and tricks to frame the perfect shot. Return to the lodge after the long day out in the wilderness for a relaxing dinner and stay.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking 2.0 (Volcanoes National Park)
Set off for another hour with a gorilla troop. As you observe this herd, you will notice that every family is different, with different types of primates interacting in varied ways. And every image you capture tells a different story. Amongst these hills, we will follow narrow trails created by gorilla trackers that have gone before us, offering a deep plunge into the wilderness. Take a moment to put the camera down and take in the isolated beauty of the wild.
Day 6: The Cloud Forests of Uganda (Bwindi Impenetrable National Park)
Travel north about two to three hours to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda. We will travel slow and stop on the way, so you can capture the rural wilderness of Africa – women with babies strapped to their backs in colourful blankets; straw huts dotting the hillside; terraced plantations and misty mountains. At the border, we will meet a local Ugandan guide, who can assist in access to villages and photos with villagers. Check in to your lodge to stay for the night.
Day 7: Gorilla Trekking 3.0 (Bwindi Impenetrable National Park)
As in Rwanda, we will follow troops of gorillas, as led by the trackers of the area, keeping a usual safe distance of seven meters. You get a full hour of exploration to shoot these beautiful creatures on film. On your third trek, you now have a lot more experience and familiarisation with the area. With the trips and techniques learnt over the trip, take your time to experiment now and capture the scene as you like. Savour the last few moments with these exquisite giants of Africa.
Day 8: Coming Back (Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Kigali)
Drive back to Kigali, approximately four hours away, through the beautiful hills of Uganda and Rwanda. You can take the day to relax back at your hotel in Kigali, watching the sunset over the hills as you scroll through the treasure of photos you’ve taken in the past few days. If you are feeling adventurous, your guide knows a few detours on the way to capture the countryside and its people.
Day 9: Farewell Africa! (Kigali)
Transfer back to the international airport for your flight back home.
