The Journey

Welcome to Istanbul

Meet our representative at the Istanbul Ataturk airport and transfer to the hotel for check-in. There is something magical in the very air of Istanbul – a confluence of East and West that boasts the legacy of the legendary silk road and a culinary heritage that will leave you craving for more! We have organised a special welcome dinner for you at a local restaurant today. Stay: Hotel Barcelo

Exploring Istanbul

A walk through the streets of Istanbul leaves one in awe of its beauty and instils a sense of timeless history of generations, both past and present. Today, we will take you for a full day exploration of the city, including Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Constantinople’s Hippodrome and the magnificent Sultanahmet Mosque, popularly known as the Blue Mosque for its interiors decorated with 21,000 blue Iznik tiles. For lunch, stop at Giritli Restaurant, a family-run Cretan kitchen that serves unique versions of Istanbul fare. Signature Experience: Enjoy an afternoon cup of Turkish coffee at a historical cafe of the Grand Bazaar – one of the largest and most popular markets in the world. Afternoon coffee is a long-standing tradition in Turkey and is often accompanied with fortune-telling from the left-over coffee grounds in the cup. Stay: Hotel Barcelo

Istanbul – Cappadocia

Today, we start early for the morning flight from Istanbul to Kayseri. Our representative will meet you at the Kayseri airport to drive you to Cappadocia. After check-in, step out to explore the region, including the fascinating underground city of Kaymakli, which is believed to have been carved out around 2,000 BC. Visit the idyllic Ayvalı village, far from tourist stops, where people still follow a traditional lifestyle. And end at the beautiful Pigeon valley. Signature Experience: In the evening, you will get to witness the mesmerizing spiritual ceremony of “Sema” (whirling Sufi Dervishes). This mystical, ancient ritual blends dance, prayer, meditation and trance for a powerful spiritual experience that is sure to leave you spellbound. Stay: Dinler Hotel

After breakfast, leave for a full-day exploration of the area, including visits to Göreme Open Air Museum – a monastic complex home to some of the finest rock-cut churches and exquisite frescoes; the whimsical Dervent Valley, famous for its lunar landscape and peculiar “fairy chimneys”; the ancient town of Vanessa which features a Roman-era necropolis; and the pink-hued Paşabağ (or Monk’s Valley) known for its extraordinary rock formations. Signature Experience: For dinner, we have arranged a special experience at a local village home. Observe how the family prepares their daily meals and pick up a few secrets of Turkish cooking as you lend a hand in the kitchen. And then enjoy the home-cooked meal over warm conversations. Optional Experience: Soar over the magnificent Cappadocian landscape and get up-close to its “fairy chimneys”. Travelling at heights of up to 1500 feet, the feeling is one of peace and tranquillity as you glide over white-washed landscapes of Cappadocia. Stay: Dinler Hotel

Cappadocia – Konya – Pamukkale

After breakfast, journey to your next destination – Pamukkale, one of the most surreal sights of Turkey with gleaming white limestone cliffs rising from mineral-rich thermal waters. On the way, you will visit Sultanhani Caravanserai, an elaborate stop-over built for travelers and merchants on the silk road back in the 13th century. Then visit the Mevlana Museum, famous for its turquoise tiled tower and exquisite Ottoman calligraphy and inscriptions. Stop over for lunch at a local restaurant, before reaching your hotel in Pamukkale. After check-in, you will have the rest of the day at leisure. Stay: Doğa Thermal Hotel

Pamukkale – Kuşadası

Today, you will step out to explore the ancient city of Hierapolis – a Roman spa city where people have been coming to heal their ailments since as far back as 2nd century BC. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and then leave for Kuşadası, gateway to the port city of Ephesus. Check-in at the hotel and then spend some time at leisure. Stay: Korumar Hotel

Kuşadası – Ephesus – Izmir

After breakfast, step out to explore the ancient city of Ephesus, an outstanding example of a Roman port city established in 10th century B.C and home to Temple of Diana – one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Visit the House of the Virgin Mary, one of the most important highlights in Turkey for Christian pilgrims. And end your day in Izmir. Dinner will be served at the Adabeyi Pier Restaurant, situated at the famous Konak pier – with delectable seafood and exquisite sunset views over the horizon. Stay: Renaissance Hotel

Izmir – Pergamon – Troy – Çanakkale

After breakfast, you will be picked up for a trip to the ancient cities of Pergamon and Troy. The acropolis of Pergamon bears fascinating remnants of the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires. And in the city of Troy, you can see a wooden replica of the legendary Trojan Horse from the times of an equally legendary couple: Helen and Paris. You will end your day at Çanakkale. Stay: Kolin Hotel

Çanakkale – Istanbul

After breakfast, depart for Istanbul where you will spend the last night of your journey. You will reach the city by the afternoon and the rest of the day is yours to spend at your own pace. In the evening, we have a special farewell dinner planned. Stay: Hotel Barcelo
